The National Womens Register: Space to be you A place for talk

NWR's Area Organisers

As you can see from the Find a Group section on the website, NWR's groups are divided into eight Regions (Scotland, Northeast, Northwest and North Wales, East, Midlands and South Wales, Central, Southeast and Southwest). These regions are further sub-divided into Areas, each containing between six and twelve groups. Ideally, we would like each Area to be looked after by an Area Organiser, as we have found that where there is an AO the groups there are more involved with each other and with NWR nationally. Unfortunately we still need a lot more AOs!

If, after you have read the information below, you think you would like to volunteer to be an AO, please check on the Find a Group Section and if your Area does not have an AO, please contact the Membership Co-ordinator or the Office to find out more about what you can do.

Why do we need Area Organisers?

  • To support existing groups
  • To remind groups about the national aspect of NWR
  • To encourage and help groups to hold events
  • To help start new groups

What does an Area Organiser do?

  • She is responsible to the Membership Co-ordinator for the groups in her Area, which usually number between 5 and 10.
  • She keeps in touch with the groups in her Area by letter, phone, email, and by visiting them.
  • She helps her groups with any problems they might have
  • She gives her groups advice when they ask her for it
  • She organises an Area Meeting for her groups once a year
  • She helps to start New Groups in her Area
  • She keeps her groups in touch with NWR's national events

Why does she do it?

She enjoys:-

  • Meeting members face-to-face
  • Talking to keen members
  • Contact with other groups
  • Being there for groups
  • Friendship
  • Co-ordinating events
  • Helping groups to enjoy interacting with each other
  • Giving groups the idea of a national organisation
  • Going to the National Conference
  • Paying back NWR

What does she get from NWR?

  • All expenses paid
  • A contribution towards the cost of her Conference place
  • The chance to attend an Area Workshop once a year
