Co-ordinators and Financial Manager

We have two hard-working co-ordinators and an equally hard-working bookkeeper who are based at home and between them cover a vast range of tasks for the organisation.

Kathryn Buckman: Membership Co-ordinator

I am delighted to have been appointed as NWR's new Membership Co-ordinator. My origins are in Lancashire but I have lived in the Midlands since going to Nottingham University in the 1970s. I now live in the village of Alrewas, which is south of Burton-upon-Trent; the village has a thriving NWR group, which helped me to settle here 23 years ago. As a maths teacher, I have taught part-time during the time that my three sons have been growing up. However, now that my youngest has gone off to university, I am able to be more flexible, and the challenge of this post promises to give me a new direction. Through my involvement with the National Association of Ladies' Circles and my sons' school PTA, I have a wealth of experience in generating ideas and coordinating large events. Eilis has worked hard for the membership of NWR and will be a hard act to follow, but I am looking forward to taking the reins and furthering her work. My first opportunity to meet many of you will be at the National Conference in Bath when we will consider the challenges of the future. See you there...

Mary Dodkins: Marketing Co-ordinator

I joined the National Group in 1996, in 1997 I became National Organiser. My main purpose is communication, both internal and external. My remit is to raise the profile of NWR. To this end I oversee and regularly update the publicity materials, write and disseminate news releases to increase awareness about NWR and encourage enquiries; I emphasise the advantages and highlight the wider opportunities of NWR membership to both current and future members. I edit and produce the biannual magazines and Annual Report. Researching and recommending venues for National Conference and establish and support the National Conference committee. I liaise with all NWR's overseas groups. I also liaise with the website to maintain a flow of up to date information and supply photos for the galleries.
Please contact me for help with publicity, or if you have material for publication in the Newsletter or magazine. I can also help with overseas information as well as information regarding the National Conference. I am always interested to hear your ideas and suggestions for the NWR.

Nikki Iles: Financial Manager

I look after NWR's finances. To do this I work in close collaboration with the Office Administrators and the Hon. Treasurer. I also liaise with the NWR Coordinators and Trustees. I use accounting software to ensure accuracy in the financial reports, payroll and government taxes. The work undertaken includes the following:

Income - entering subscriptions, donations, grants & sales.

Expenditure - writing cheques, setting up bank transfers & payments

Payroll - paying salaries, statutory sick pay, statutory Maternity pay & other benefits.

Government taxes - payroll taxes (income tax & national insurance); VAT on subscriptions & sales.

Preparation & submission of End of Tax year forms to HM Revenue & Customs.

DfES grant - preparing accounts for claims

Gift Aid - preparing claims monthly.

Financial Reports - prepared monthly for Trustees.

Budget -preparing a yearly budget for approval by Trustees.

Checking & preparation of Conference accounts.

Financial year End- Preparation of documents & accounts for auditors

Attendance at Trustee meetings.

Much of the work must be done to strict deadlines especially anything involving HM Government, but is very varied and often challenging. Nikki can be contacted through the main office email.
