2009: Liz WaiteLiz Waite of the Twickenham St Margaret's NWR Group, Middlesex was nominated by Pauline Tomlinson. She was presented with the Mary Stott Award by the Chair of Trustees Marjorie Briggs. Liz has been a committed fund-raiser for a national charity for several years but 2008 saw national recognition of her dedication, and the achievement of a personal goal. She attended a Reception at 10 Downing St. hosted by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife, followed in July by an invitation to attend a service in Westminster Abbey to celebrate 60 years of the NHS. Later Liz became involved with a Consultative Group setting up at national level offering advice from a personal perspective of the problems experienced by those who have or have had a life-threatening illness, cancer in particular, when trying to obtain insurance. Finally towards the end of the year she achieved the personal target she had set herself to raise £30,000 for her chosen charity. Liz continues to expand her fund-raising activities and never ceases to be both an inspiration and a support in so many ways to all the other members of her NWR Group. |
