NWR has held National Conferences once a year from the 1960s and they are open to all paid up members. The average attendance is circa 300 members. These conferences are organised by members who form a volunteer committee. Academic venues have traditionally been used to ensure a campus type atmosphere. The venues are researched and booked by the Marketing Co-ordinator in consultation with a venue agency and the Board of Trustees.
The venues are selected up to two years in advance with the aim of moving the conference from the North through the Midlands to the South. This regular pattern allows different collections of NWR groups the chance to run a conference and also offers members from around the UK the opportunity to attend a National Conference reasonably accessible to them sometime in a three year period.
