I found NWR – and never looked back… Your turn next…

NWR’s groups in the UK are a fertile source of new friends

I am one of the lucky ones. I found NWR over fifteen years ago now and feel I need to tell more women all about it. I arrived in new place not knowing a soul and with no family contacts at all. It was daunting, even depressing and somewhat frightening. The strangest thought lurked at the back of my mind – if I died there would be no one at my funeral. It’s strange how loneliness and a sense of isolation can affect you.

Belonging to this group of friendly women changed my life. My friends are my group and my group are my friends. I look forward to our twice monthly meetings and discussions as well as the coffee morning once a month for more informal chats. After each meeting I come away with a renewed sense of belonging and a fresh desire to meet again as soon as possible. We met in each other’s homes so there is an instant feeling of friendship and an intimacy that cannot be matched by meetings held in halls.

The group also had a Book group, walking group and regular mixed social outings so my husband got to know other men too, a bonus for him. This unexpected extra provided him with a support system nearly as good as mine!

Friendship develops at different speeds for different types of people but I found that the mental stimulus of exchanging ideas cemented a closeness that developed into respect and liking faster than say a casual meeting at a gym or club. This is why I count the day that I joined NWR as one of the better days and definitely one of my best decisions. NWR is a well kept secret but I feel I have to share it with other women who may be feeling all alone out there desperate for some meaningful interaction and discussion with other women.

So find out more about NWR, look for a group near you from www.nwr.org.uk and set out along a new road of discovery, friendship. Become part of a vibrant crowd of welcoming women… this will keep you feeling younger, more mentally alert as well as happier... as scientists have been saying recently – people who mix with others live longer...
