This sensational event based on the theme of ‘Relatively Speaking’ was thoroughly enjoyed by over 300 members. It was held on the University of Sussex campus at Brighton in the Jubilee lecture hall and many members stayed in student accommodation onsite making everything accessible.
Around 24 women consisting of Local Organisers (LO), Area Organisers (AO), one trustee and some members who were representing their groups, all met at The Hilton Hotel in York for the first combined meeting organised by Natalie our National Organiser. The majority were from the North East, but some ladies had travelled over from Crewe and others from much further south in the country.

The Short Story Competition 2015 had as it’s theme, ‘Freedom’. Members were asked to enter a short story of 2,000 words or less for the chance to win two nights B&B for two people at Gladstone’s Library in Flintshire, Wales. Sittingbourne member, Jill Sidders, won the competition with her story Freedom lost and Freedom gained.
This year the Telephone Treasure Trail celebrates its 20th anniversary! It was initially organised by Abbots Langley member Caroline Bloomer with 231 groups taking part. Because of its great success, it turned into an annual event and now – 20 years on – almost 400 groups took part. This year was organised by Crewe & District NWR.
In 2016 it will be 100 years since Einstein published his theory of general relativity. It followed his theory of special relativity published in 1905. Both theories are rather complicated, but basically Einstein argued, in the theory of special relativity, that things like time and space are relative to the state (speed) of the observer – space contracts and time dilates when travelling close to the speed of light.
A Good Read returns on Saturday 3 October 2015 in the tiny county of Rutland at the Greetham Golf Hotel for day filled with literary stimulation and interactive workshops.
The NWR National Conference & AGM 2015 took place in Glasgow on Saturday 20 June in the beautiful and historic Grand Central Hotel. The trustees, staff and conference committee were delighted to welcome 260 members. Many made a weekend of it and enjoyed wraparound events including a guided tour of Glasgow’s historical sites.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the NWR Photography Competition 2015 is Lynn Welsher for her photo, The Acer Leaves.
The theme was ‘a flash of colour’ and the judges, artist Kate Lycett and photographer Alison Walker, were looking for inspiration, originality and quality. Thank you to everyone who entered. Both the quality and number of entries we received were extremely high, which made judging very difficult.
This year’s NWR National Conference will be held in the vibrant city of Glasgow at the Grand Hotel and will be on the theme of 'Diverse Connections’. We have some excellent speakers already confirmed and events will include guided tours of Glasgow’s historical sites, an evening meal and of course a quiz.
